A day for champions
Western Union consumers got together on March 24 at Real Authentic Jamaican Restaurant & Bar in Mississauga, Ontario, over seven hours (!) to watch and celebrate high school athletes competing in the final day of the five-day ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletic Championships, or Champs, in Kingston, Jamaica.
Champs, considered a proving ground for track and field stars – many of whom go on to compete in International and Olympic competitions, is a passion point for many in the Jamaican community and we are honoured to have been able to support and share in this passion for the annual competition.
Celebrating our most loyal consumers
It was a great chance for us to recognize and give back to our loyal Jamaican consumers with fantastic Jamaican food like jerk pork and chicken, rice and peas, and oxtail gravy, along with gift baskets provided by Grace Kennedy and cash prizes from Western Union.
And we had the opportunity to honour one of our most loyal consumers, Rohan, who has been using Western Union to send money back home to Jamaica for many years to help with different needs, especially school fees for children in his family.
Rohan is a big track and field fan and was excited to be at the event and cheer on his favourite competitors – and we were proud to present him with a cash prize, which he promptly told us he plans to send back home to continue to support his family, along with an all-expenses paid trip to attend Champs next year in Jamaica!
